Betty West Leasure

Barbara Elizabeth West Suggs Leasure, 86, daughter of James Gary West and Elizabeth Dovell West was born on December 3, 1938 in Anderson, South Carolina.

She grew up in Charleston, South Carolina, graduated from Charleston High School in 1956 and attended Lander College, Greenwood, South Carolina on a full scholarship in voice and minoring in piano. She loved music, singing in church choir and acting in musicals.

She was married to Dr. James L. Suggs of Conway, South Carolina and they had a precious child, Debbie Ruth Suggs, born June 1, 1960 and went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, August 4, 2009.

Betty, as she was called by everyone, retired from the Naval Hospital as a Medical Assistant, Charleston, South Carolina, July 1975. Prior to that, she worked at the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston and Jackson Memorial Hospital, Miami, Florida where her daughter Debbie was born.

In 1995 she married Clinton Roy Leasure, an Air Force Veteran who passed away on April 10, 2013. She is survived by her sister, Annie Ruth West Figg of Tallahassee, Florida, her daughters Linda Figg (Richard); Karen Figg (son, Owen), Donna Figg-Lacey (Kevin), Destin, Florida; Nancy Figg Duessel (John, and three sons Elliot Scott, Christian John), Dallas, Texas.

Betty lived in Tallahassee, Florida for almost two years spending time with family and friends, and especially her sister Annie Ruth West Figg. She lived a life filled with love, grace, and dedication to her family and community. Betty was known for warmth, kindness, and beautiful spirit. She touched many lives through her generosity and compassion. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

A visitation for Betty will be held Monday, July 7, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 700 Timberlane Road, Tallahassee, Florida 32312 with funeral services beginning at 11:00 AM. A burial following the service at MeadowWood Memorial Park.
