

Birdie passed away on August 21, 2023, in Tallahassee, Florida. The Visitation will be held from 5:00–7:00 p.m. at Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Home at 1737 Riggins Road, Tallahassee. The Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 5455 Buck Lake Road, Tallahassee.
Birdie was born in Leon County, Tallahassee, to John L. Smith and Myrtice Allen Smith on August 18, 1935.
She was an alumnus from the original Florida High School. She worked at Gilberg’s Fabrics, BP Gas Station, La Quinta Inn, Maas Brothers, Burdine’s, and Macy’s for 40 years. She was also an election worker and precinct supervisor for over 16 years.
She enjoyed quilting, gardening, embroidery, and her family. She and her family are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Birdie is preceded in death by her husband Berry Milroy Thompson, her parents, and her son Ethan Hope Thompson.
She is survived by her children Frances Cutright, Avis Lynde, Karen West, and John and Beth Thompson, and her step children Lonnis and Glen Chapman, Mary Hall Goble, Kaye and Mel Beatty, June and Ken Truman, and Robert and Gayle Thompson. She was a grandmother to 34 grandkids, 104 great grandchildren and at least 2 great great-grandchildren.
Birdie is also survived by her sister, Myrtice Sink as well as numerous nieces and nephews all that she loved dearly.
