

Bobby Ray “B. R.” Thompson, born March 11, 1937, in Lyons, Georgia, left his Tallahassee home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, April 12, 2017. He is survived by his wife of almost 62 years, Bertha Gunn Thompson, and their three sons, David (Jill), Dale (Susan), and Terry (Lori), all of Tallahassee. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Anna Thompson, Anna (Richard) Gutierrez, Brooke (Frankie) La Piana, Louis (Meghan) Poskey, Ashley (Wes) Leggett, Donovan (Alley) Thompson, Allison Gilliard, Cody Gilliard, and Devon (David) Tillotson; six great grandchildren, Carter Thompson, Avery Thompson, Myles Thompson, Levi Montford, Alexander Gutierrez, and Rosalie La Piana; two brothers, Willie (Yvonne) and Melvin (Barbara), and one sister Beulah Holmes, along with many nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Tommy and Julia Thompson, and his son, Richard “Rick” Thompson.
Bobby, along with Bertha, owned and operated a heavy equipment construction company for 37 years, during which time he also served as a lay minister in the Assemblies of God and as pastor for two churches. In “retirement” he was pleased to serve with the MAPS RV Volunteers, participating in the construction of churches, youth camps, college dormitories, recreational fields, a drug rehab center, and other projects throughout the eastern United States. During this time, he and Bertha traveled extensively, visiting 48 states, including Alaska. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a trip to Greece.
The family will receive friends Monday, April 17, 2017, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home at 700 Timberlane Road. The memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at Freedom First Assembly of God Church located at 2801 Thomasville Road.
