Brita Sylvia Benson Darling

Brita Darling peacefully passed away on January 16th at the LifePath Hospice Center in Sun City Center, FL after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

She went to school in NY at the College of Oneonta and received her Bachelor of Science and Masters in Education. Her passion to learn, teach and inspire others allowed her the joy of being a teacher, guidance counselor and principal in the Leon County School System for many years. She retired from Springwood Elementary in 2000 and was affectionately known as Mama Owl. While living in Sun City Center, FL, Brita enjoyed retirement by volunteering, being an active member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, participating in Tres Dias and quilting with friends.

Brita is survived by her husband, Donald Darling; and their children, David Darling, Marc Finlen, Craig Darling and Jennifer Finlen Driscoll, along with their spouses, Virginia Darling, Kara Finlen and Tim Driscoll and 8 wonderful grandchildren.

A visitation will be held at Culley's MeadowWood Timberlane Rd Chapel on Friday, January 20, 2012 from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm. A funeral service will be held at Cornerstone Presbyterian Church - 2904 Kerry Forest Parkway Tallahassee, FL - on Saturday, January 21, 2012 at 9:30. Burial will follow at Culley's MeadowWood Memorial Park.

She will be greatly missed by the many lives she touched and inspired by living life filled with passion, strength and Godly spirit.

Donations can be made in her honor to Life Path Hospice of Sun City Center at 3723 Upper Creek Dr., Ruskin, FL 33573.
