
Carol was born in Columbia, South Carolina on October 23, 1936. She was the daughter of Earl and Lillian Pauline Smith. who preceded her in death. Carol was the youngest of seven children. She met her future husband Franklin Lewis Jones in Columbia, while he was stationed at Fort Jackson (Army). They were married on December 22, 1956, and had a wonderful life together up until his death in 2015. Throughout their marriage, they lived in Greensboro, FL, Chickasaw, AL and Tallahassee, FL. Lewis was the band director at Leon High School from 1966-1978.
Carol would like to be remembered for loving each and every family member, her beloved family, with all of her heart. Each family member brought her great happiness and she considered them her “life.” In her own words: “Only God comes before you. Each day I am thankful for you and the beautiful world that God has made.”
Carol’s life was a happy one filled with love of family and friends. She enjoyed each day in this beautiful world. She felt blessed many times over with her family. Her beloved husband Lewis, who preceded her in death, stood by her through the rough years when they were dealing with ill and elderly family members. His steadfast love of God and family had always been there. How blessed she had been!
Carol is survived by her three children, Kendall Jones (Carol) from Woodstock, GA; Karen Few (Tim) from Tallahassee, FL; and Kerry Jones (Nan) from Hoover, AL. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Kyle Jones (Audrey), David Few, Brannon Jones (Lauren), Karilyn Stefan (Nick) and Lillian Jones; as well as four great-grandchildren, Laney Jones, Jackson Baggett, Ellie Jones and Paisley Jones.
A celebration of Carol’s life will be at John Wesley United Methodist Church (1689 Old St. Augustine Road) in Tallahassee on Saturday, December 16, 2017. Visitation is at 3:30pm, with the service scheduled for 4:30pm.
Donations in Carol’s memory may be made to Big Bend Hospice or to Salvation Army Tallahassee. Carol’s family wants to express their sincere appreciation and gratitude to the staff and volunteers at the Margaret Z. Dozier Hospice House. Their kindness will always be remembered.
