
Charles Corson Cadwallader of Tallahassee, passed on Friday, June 12, 2015. He was 97 years of age. Internment will be at the Florida National Cemetery at Bushnell, Florida. A native of Bucks County, Pennsylvania, he had lived in Tallahassee since 1993.
Following graduation from Whittier College, he entered the Navy and was commissioned as an officer at the beginning of WWII. He subsequently received his MS degree in Social Work from the Virginia Commonwealth University in 1951 and worked for the Veterans Administration (VA) Hospital system as a Medical Social Worker at the VA Hospital in Coral Gables, Florida. He was later appointed Director of Medical Social Work Services at the VA in Kerrville, Texas, and was then appointed Director of Social Services at the VA Hospital in Dayton, Ohio until his retirement in 1973. Mr. Cadwallader was a member of the Tallahassee Monthly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends. His wife of 51 years, Virginia Sherman Cadwallader, predeceased him on February 20, 1996.
He is survived by his sister, Linda DuBree of Whidbey Island, Washington; Charles C. Cadwallader, Jr., of Parrish, Florida; Barbara Barnes of Tallahassee, Walter Sherman Cadwallader of Whidbey Island, Washington; James Howard Cadwallader of Tallahassee; seven grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
Mr Cadwallader requested that remembrances in his name be made to the Tallahassee Friends Meeting, or the Big Bend Hospice of Tallahassee. In a final attestation, he wrote: “I am particularly saddened that I will sorely miss my family and friends”.
