Charles Samuel Johnson, 74, passed away Thursday, March 1, 2018 after a long illness. He was born to Efford and Mamie Johnson on April 16, 1943 and was a 1961 graduate of Quincy High School. He served in the United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged from the Reserves in 1968. He began his career with Industrial National Bank (now Capital City Bank) in 1967 where he rose to Sr. Vice President. During his 34 year tenure at the bank, he took joy in helping thousands of customers start businesses, purchase vehicles and finance children's education needs.
The center of his life was his family and he was passionate about their success. Sons Troy (Amy) Johnson and Jeff Johnson, and Grandchildren Trey Johnson, Walker Johnson, Ashley Johnson and Scarlett Luke-Johnson were the focal point of his retirement years and he cherished time spent in their lives. They will miss their PopPop tremendously.
The youngest of five children, Charles was preceded in death by brothers James (Joanne) Johnson and J.W. (Eloise) Johnson, and sisters Estelle Johns Woller and Mary Johnson Dyer. Charles was also very close to his nieces and nephews, of whom there were numerous.
The family will receive visitors on Wednesday, March 7th, 2018 from 5:30-7:30 pm at Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home, Riggins Road Chapel. A celebration of life service will be held Thursday, March 8th, 3PM at Immanuel Baptist Church (2351 Mahan Drive). Burial is to follow at Roselawn Cemetery.
The Johnson family extends the warmest of thanks to the caring staff at Seven Hills Health & Rehabilitation Center and Big Bend Hospice. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Big Bend Hospice.
