

Cheryl Ann Schmidt, 65, of Tallahassee died Sunday (9/24) at Capital Regional Hospital. A native of New Haven, Conn she earned her Associate of Arts Degree at Tallahassee Community College and her Bachelor and Master’s Degrees in Exceptional Student Education at Florida State University. She worked for 5 years at the Florida Department of Law Enforcement when she returned to Tallahassee from Tampa. She taught for 30 years in the Leon County School System, 28 of which were in a public/private partnership program for children with special needs at Creative Pre-school as a Pre-K ESE Teacher. She also was an adjunct Instructor at Tallahassee Community College for 15 years where she instructed in Early Childhood Education. When she retired from Leon County Shcools on June 3, 2014, she moved to Palm Bay and attended Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Melbourne.
Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church was where she and Walter were married on June 3, 1972. He preceded her in death on March 29, 2014. She is survived by her daughter: Amber Marie Schmidt of Tallahassee; son and daughter-in-law: David Walter and Natalie Laine Schmidt of Coconut Creek; brothers: George Blake of Horseshoe Beach, Jerome Blake of Trenton, FL; and her dog Toby.
