Donald E. Cohen's spirit passed from this plane of consciousness to the next on March 27, 2017 at the age of 82. A Philadelphia native, he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy in 1956, then enlisted in the United States Army Reserves. After an Honorable Discharge, Donald returned to Philadelphia, purchased a neighborhood pharmacy, and then spent the next few decades of his life serving his community while enjoying all of the sights, sounds, and landmarks throughout the city he loved. After many years of working long days, nights and weekends, he decided more personal and family time was in order, and became a successful stockbroker. This career change ultimately led him to his soulmate and love of his life, Nancy, with whom he enjoyed 38 years of marriage. A sign on his desk at work read, "Out of an ordinary life love comes along... and life becomes a fairy tale.
Don was a member of Temple Israel and spent more than 45 years seeking God, not only through his own culture and faith, but also through Siddha Yoga and Eckankar. Despite numerous challenges along his journey, Don had Herculean tenacity, unwavering focus, humility and gratitude. Tender-hearted, he patiently supported and helped spoil a furry procession of rescued kitty orphans that Nancy frequently accidentally smuggled into their homes and hearts. Donald Cohen rarely complained about anything and felt that he had everything. He was truly a remarkable human being. Donald is survived by beloved wife Nancy; his precious daughters, Andrea Joy Poe and Mardi Beth Jaskolski; sons-in-law Kenny Poe and Thomas Jaskolski; and granddaughter Danielle Rose Castonguay. Graveside services will be held at Culley's Memorial Park (700 Timberlane Road) Tallahassee, Florida on Thursday, March 30, 2017 at 1pm. If you are moved to remember Don in some monetary way, please consider a donation to Temple Israel.
