

Ella Mae Horton, 85, of Tallahasee, Florida, went home to be with the Lord on September 20, 2013. Born in Mobile, Alabama on April 1, 1928, she was the daughter of the late George and Willie Fox. In 1944 she married Herchiel B. Horton and they were married for twenty-five years. Ella Mae worked at Florida State Hospital where, after 30 years she retired.
Ella Mae, better known as “Granny”, was an active member of Aenon Baptist Church, Tallahassee, Florida for the last eight years while residing with daughter, Betty Meredith. Prior to living in Tallahassee she was a resident of Grand Ridge, Florida where she was a member of Providence Baptist Church for approximately fifty years. During Mrs. Horton’s life she loved the Lord, cooking for her family and church, spending time with her family, traveling, and fellowshipping with friends. She was a person that found much satisfaction by serving her Lord through service in the church and to others in the community. She was the Training Union Director at Providence for over 30 years. She was known for her strong will, sweet spirit and feisty attitude.
She was preceded in death by her parents George and Willie Fox and husband, Herchiel B. Horton. She is survived by three children, Dorothy Nicolo, of Tallahassee, Florida; Betty Meredith and husband Bruce, of Tallahassee, Florida; David Horton and wife June, of Grand Ridge, Florida. Six grandchildren: Keith Godwin, and wife, Tara; Michelle Schneggenburger, and husband, Scott; Kelly Ziglar, and husband, Ryan; Tony Horton; Jason Meredith and wife, Zylphia; Kristy Pitts and husband, Jerry. Twelve great grandchildren: Tayler Schneggenburger, Garrett Zigler, Dalton Godwin, Nicole Schneggenburger, Austin Meredith, Kaya Meredith, Samuel Godwin, Dylan Ziglar, Jerry Pitts Jr., Nathan Ziglar, Madyson Meredith, Terry Pitts and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday, September 23, 2013 at 11:00 EST at Aenon Baptist, 6073 Blountstown Hwy, Tallahassee, FL. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service for visitation. The burial will follow with a Celebration of Life Service at the Shady Grove Cemetery, Birchwood Road, Grand Ridge, FL at 3:00 CST.
