Mrs. Scott was born May 30, 1927 in Webster, Massachusetts to Czechoslovakian émigrés Julian J. Horniak and Emma Janota Horniak. She graduated from Bartlett High School where she was class queen and was reputed to rival Ginger Rogers for her dancing ability. She met her husband, Ralph Wentworth Scott, Jr., when her brother, Bernie, invited her to dinner in order to meet him. It was love at first sight. Later that night, she told her mother she was going to marry him. Their marriage continued for 32 years until Mr. Scott’s untimely passing in 1980.
Eugenia and Ralph were the founders of Scott-Burnett, Inc., a family-owned mechanical contracting business, now in its 46th year. The company was built on their shared time-tested values of honesty, integrity, solid work ethics and providing clients with exceptional expertise. The company is still a family owned and operated business committed to these same principles and standards, and the foundation of Deuteronomy 8:18 which reads, “Remember the Lord your God. He is the one who gives you power to be successful, in order to fulfill the covenant he confirmed to your ancestors with an oath.”
Eugenia (“Nana”) loved nothing more than her family, selflessly devoting herself fully to her six children and 13 grandchildren, giving generously and helping others succeed. She loved her coffee and goodies, nature, family get-togethers, and going for “bye bye” rides in the car. She often was heard to say how blessed she was in all aspects of life.
She is survived by six children, Amy Scott Heifner of Atlanta (husband Steve), Audrey Scott Kotick (husband Lee), Mark Randolph “Randy” Scott (wife Patrice), Ralph Wentworth Scott, III (wife Diane), Andra Scott Cornelius, and Richard Houck Scott (wife Julie), all of Tallahassee; her brother Edward Horniak (wife Nancy) of Hillsboro, New Hampshire; 13 grandchildren, John Jason Heifner (wife Rachel); Sarah Catherine Beall (partner Owen O’Sullivan), Abby Alaine Heifner, Scott Harrison Kotick, Annalise Adair Scott, Micah Daniel Scott, Amy Alexander Scott, Hannah Elizabeth Scott, Samuel Andrew Scott, Ralph Wentworth Scott, IV, Caleb Joshua Scott, Leah Katelyn Scott and John Levi William Scott, step-grandchildren Murray Ronald Cornelius, Jr. (wife Michelle) and Tori Cornelius Wierenga (husband Ronnie), step-great grandchildren Jack Thomas Cornelius and Emma Grace Cornelius and numerous nieces and nephews. She leaves behind her precious dog, Benji, and cat, Johnnie. She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, John Horniak, Frances Horniak Corcoran, Anne Horniak, and Bernard Horniak, and son-in-law Murray Ronald “Ronnie” Cornelius, Sr.
