Gail L. Shelby

The visitation will be held on Thursday, February 22 at 10am at Tallahassee Heights UMC. Funeral service will follow at 11am, Pastor Ken Hamilton will be officiating. Interment will follow the funeral at Mount Pleasant Cemetery at 3pm.

Gail was born in Chattahoochee, Florida on April 26, 1943. She graduated from Chattahoochee High School and was Salutatorian of her class, and received her degree in Elementary Education from Florida State University.

Gail was married to Doug Shelby on August 31,1963; they were married 54 years.

Gail worked as a Teacher at Kate Sullivan, then at Gayfers part-time before moving on to a career with Corporation Service Company (CSC). She was an active member of the Orange Blossom Garden Club and the THUMC Susanna Wesley Circle and was a former member of the Junior Woman’s Club. Gail loved volunteer work. Her greatest pleasure was serving over 17 years as a Volunteer in the Gift Shop at Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare.

She loved to spend time with her grandchildren during the summers at Mexico Beach, swimming, fishing and scalloping, camping all over the country in their RV, and travelling the United States, Europe, and Russia with friends and family.

Gail is survived by her loving and devoted husband Douglas. They have 2 children, a daughter Selina Shelby Hough (James), grandsons Andy, Carson and Dakota, and a son Alan Shelby (Jennifer), granddaughters Sarah and Addison. She is also survived by her brother Charles Holloway, a sister Faye Holloway Alcorn (Robert), and a stepsister Sandra Lee Friedman as well as many nieces and nephews, loving family and dear friends.

Gail is preceded in death by her father Cecil Hampton Holloway, her Mother Lucille Holloway Shotts, and her stepfather Morris D. Shotts.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to Tallahassee Heights UMC. The family of Gail Shelby also wishes to thank all of the wonderful people of Big Bend Hospice for their knowledge, compassion and care, and Terri Burt and her loving staff.
