

Bill graduated from Jacksonville University and later completed his Ph.D in Physical Chemistry at Florida State University. He began his career in service to the State of Florida at the Florida Department of Health's Public Health Laboratory in Jacksonville. He relocated to Tallahassee to work in the environmental laboratory for the Department of Environmental Protection later becoming Chief of the DEP Bureau of Laboratories. He retired in 2015 after 30 years of service.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents and his son, Nicholas Coppenger. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Kathy Manjuck Coppenger, son Andrew Coppenger and his wife Kristi Coppenger, and cherished granddaughters Ruby and Abby.
Bill had many interests throughout his life and pursued them avidly-hiking, tennis and racquetball and road and off road bicycling. In later years he revisited his love of motorcycle riding and also riding top down in his convertible.
He is remembered for his deep intellect, contemplative manner and wry sense of humor. He loved his family dearly, including many beloved dogs and cats. His granddaughters were his greatest joy. Bill will be greatly missed.
To honor Bill's wishes, there will be no funeral services. The family welcomes remembrances of his life. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
