George is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 60 years, Karen Ann Encizo; his son, John Encizo, and daughter-in-law, Constance Lange, of Raleigh, North Carolina; and his daughter, Kristen Marie Knapp, her husband, Joe, and their sons, Dalton and Colby, of Tallahassee.
Born in New York, George was one of 11 children. He proudly served in the United States Army before beginning a life centered on family, learning, and creativity. In 1972, he moved his family to Florida, where he worked full time while attending night school to earn his college degree. He went on to enjoy a successful career in corporate banking before retiring and fully embracing his creative passions.
In retirement, George became an accomplished watercolor artist, finding joy and expression through painting. He later turned to writing, first crafting memoirs about his life and family, and in 2016 began writing mystery novels. A prolific and dedicated author, George wrote 11 books, one of which earned a Gold Medal in the Florida Authors and Publishers Association President Book Awards.
When he wasn’t writing, George embraced life at a slower pace, enjoying time at the gym and taking walks through his neighborhood. He especially cherished quiet moments on the porch with his wife and their beloved poodle, Zack, watching the birds and admiring the garden that he and Karen had lovingly planned and planted together.
George was known for his creativity, discipline, and determination to continually learn and improve. Whether playing the guitar, sketching, painting, or writing, he approached each pursuit with enthusiasm. He instilled in his family the values of hard work, service to others, and the importance of making the most of every moment. A longtime supporter of Wounded Warriors and other local causes, George was especially committed to honoring and supporting veterans.
A Celebration of Life will be held 2 PM, Saturday, January 31, 2026 at Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home and Memorial Park (700 Timberlane Road, Tallahassee, Florida 32312) with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in George’s memory to Wounded Warriors.
