

Gloria was born March 24, 1931, in Columbus, Georgia, to John and Lottie Reid Horton. She grew up in Columbus and graduated from Jordon High School. Gloria retired as a Supervisor in the Parole Grant section of the Florida Parole Commission. She loved nature, working in her yard, feeding ‘her’ birds and squirrels and visiting with her family, especially her grandsons and great-grandchildren. She was an avid reader. She is survived by her children, Amy Claiborne of Havana, Florida; Edward (Patti) Claiborne of Monticello, Florida; Lisa (Robert) Bentkofsky of Oviedo, Florida; Angela (John) Partin of Havana, Florida; five grandsons, Blake (Amy), Phillip (Kristen), Daniel, Harry, and JC; 3 great grandchildren, Megan, Ashley, and Ted, her devoted nephew Robert Velasquez and great niece, Jessica Velasquez of Keller, Texas; her siblings, John (Linda) Horton of Macon, Georgia, Brenda Tasker of Alpharetta, Georgia, Mary Joyce (Alan) Waltz, of Lombard, Illinois, and Larry (Judy) Horton, of Wiley, Georgia, and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Porter Claiborne III, her parents, John and Lottie Horton, and her sister, June Workman. A service celebrating her life will be held November 13, 2010, 11:00 a.m. at Christ Episcopal Church in Monticello, Florida. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made in her memory to the Christ Episcopal Church Memorial Garden Fund.
