

Helen Merchant Tanner passed away on March 25, 2012 in Tallahassee, FL.
She was born in Brady, TX on September 24, 1911.
She was preceded in death by a daughter Bobbie M. Brewick of Dallas TX, a grandson, Robert Bruce Baize of Dallas, a sister Thelma Homesley of Angleton TX, a brother John C. Kindley of Coleman TX, a brother Alvie Kindley, mother Ethel Wilkerson McGrew of Ft. Worth, Texas and father G.W. Kindley of Abilene TX. She was formerly married to Ralph W. Merchant of Haskell TX who was the father of her 3 daughters.
She was a native Texan and loved her home state. She moved to Tallahassee, FL in 2004 from Aledo TX to live with her daughter Jeanne Alexander. Upon moving to Tallahassee in 2004, she joined the Tallahassee Newcomer's Club and enjoyed the activities. She became a member of Bradfordville First Baptist Church in 2004. She had various jobs in her lifetime, but her favorite job was 'mother' to her 3 girls: Donna, Bobbie and Jeanne. She worked in the cosmetic business as a beauty consultant for Merle Norman Cosmetics Studios in Abilene, Stamford, and Marlin, TX. In 1966, at the age of 55, she graduated from massage therapy school in Houston, TX. For over 10 year, she worked as an independent registered massage therapist, specializing in occupational massage therapy. She was a member of the American Business Women's Association for many years and held offices in the Abilene TX chapter.
She is survived by her daughter/caregiver, Jeanne Alexander and son-in-law Charles H. Alexander of Tallahassee, FL, a daughter Donna Osment of Clyde, TX; a grandson, Russ Baize & wife Racquel of Stamford, TX; a grandson, Charles (Brad) Alexander and wife Carla of Centerton, AR; a granddaughter, Lisa Propst and husband Lee of Clyde, TX; and great grandchildren, James & Corina Alexander of Chino Hills, CA, Chad Baize of Stamford, TX, Casey Baize of San Angelo, TX and Samantha Baize of Dallas, TX, Ryan Propst, of Fort Worth, TX, Damon Propst of AR, and Michal Saxon of Centerton, AR.
Funeral services will be Friday, March 30th at 11:00 A.M. at Bradfordville First Baptist Church on Thomasville Road in Tallahassee. Visitation hours will be at Culley MeadowWood Funeral Home, 700 Timberlane Road, on Thursday, March 29th, between the hours of 6:00-8:00 P.M. Interment will be in Rough Creek Cemetery in Coleman County, TX. She will be laid to rest near her beloved brother, John, in accordance with her wishes. The family wishes to acknowledge the private duty caregivers who made in possible for Helen to enjoy a higher quality of life and comfort especially these last 3 months.
