

Jack C. Steele, 85, passed peacefully at his home in Tallahassee, Florida, Thursday, May 31st, 2012.
Jack grew up in Columbus, Ohio, the son of a shoemaker. He spent one year in post-WWII Europe with the AUS. In 1950, he enlisted in the USMC, fought as an 81mm mortarman in Korea 1951, and was later a drill instructor at Parris Island. He worked as a manager for Ohio State Parks from 1955-1965. Jack married Geri Burgin of Somerset, Kentucky on September 7th, 1957. Jack later worked for the US Army Corps of Engineers as a resource manager in the Huntington District from 1965-1987. He retired to Tallahassee with his family, built a beautiful home, and directly went to work for the Florida 1st District Court of Appeals and the Leon County Sheriff's Department as a court Security Officer from 1989-2004.
Jack was predeceased by his wife Geraldine Burgin Steele, 73, on August 29th, 2008.
He is survived by his son, Jon Steele and his daughter, Mary Steele, both of Tallahassee; brother, Robert T. Steele of Port Charlotte and brother, Michael P. Steele of Nelsonville, Ohio.
Jack was a devoted husband and father. Honest and humble, a man of few words, he let his actions speak of duty and honor, to God, to family, to country. Attributes of a generation we should applaud and emulate. A kinder soul never walked the earth, our Dad.
Services will be held at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 624 Miccosukee Road, Tallahassee, at 3pm on Friday, June 15th, 2012.
Arrangements are under the direction of Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home in Tallahaseee, Florida.
