James P. Etheridge III

James P. Etheridge III, 76, passed away Saturday, December 29, 2012 at the Margaret Z. Dozier Hospice House surrounded by his loving family.

A longtime Tallahassee resident, Jim was a member of Good Samaritan United Methodist Church. He retired from the Federal Department of Justice, Bureau of Prisons. After his retirement, Jim volunteered with the Tallahassee Police Department, the Department of Juvenile Justice and most recently with Seniors Verses Crime. Jim gave his time freely for many years, as a Coach for the City of Tallahassee’s Youth Baseball, Basket Ball and Football programs .

Jim is survived by his wife of 52 years, JoAnn B. Etheridge; two sons, Jay M. Etheridge and his wife Stacey and Jon M. Etheridge and his wife Jeannie; two sisters, Claire Dimsdale and her husband John of Silver Spring, Maryland and Susie Brand of Tallahassee; and four grandchildren, Amanda, Amber, Shelby Ann and Jacob.

A memorial service will be held 6:00 pm Thursday, January 3, 2013, at Good Samaritan United Methodist Church, 3720 Capital Circle SE. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd, Tallahassee, FL 32308, North Florida Parkinson’s Awareness Group, P.O. Box 14722, Tallahassee, FL 32317, or Good Samaritan United Methodist Church.
