

Jean Keith Thompson Smith passed away, Sunday, May 26, 2013.
A native, fourth generation Tallahassean, Jean was born April 22, 1928. She was the beloved daughter of Jean Keith Thompson and Ford Leslie Thompson and sister of Judge Ford Leslie Thompson. She graduated from Leon High School and attended Florida State College for Women (FSU). She was a member of Pi Beta Phi women's fraternity.
She married Thomas Parshall Smith. They lived in Tallahassee throughout their forty-six year marriage. They reared four children, Leslie Smith Robinson (Timothy Robinson), Robert Mann Smith (Nicki Fernandez Smith), Cynthia Smith Cain (Henry "Bud" Cain) all of Tallahassee and Thomas Parshall Smith-McGehee (Lionel Smith-McGehee) of Maitland.
During her lifetime Jean was active in the Junior League, Springtime Tallahassee, several garden clubs, and the Colonels Club of Tallahassee. Jean and Tom's most fulfilling work, apart from the rearing of their children, was to be pioneer families at both Holy Comforter Episcopal Church and the Episcopal Church of the Advent. For many years Jean was active in the Flower Guild, the Altar Guild and teaching Sunday school for both churches. She was always happy to lend her floral decorating expertise and labors to anyone be it a dinner party, wedding or decorating the Governor's mansion.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and brother.
She is survived by her four children and their spouses along with seven grandchildren, Kimberly Robinson Corey (Michael Corey), Nanelle Robinson Williams (Rutledge Fuller), Amanda Smith O'Connell (Brian O'Connell), Sarah Keith Valentine (Ruben Fields), Thomas Chatfield Valentine (Elina Valentine), Caroline Erin Smith, and Kate Crosley Smith-McGehee; and seven great grandchildren. Also surviving Jean is her dear sister-in-law, Gertrude Smith Yopp of Paducah, Kentucky and many nieces and nephews.
A true "Southern Lady", Jean was always gracious, gentle and kind. Her home and her heart were always open to old and new friends. Her faith in the Lord and her love of family were unfailing.
Funeral service will be held at Holy Comforter Episcopal Church, 2015 Fleishman Road, Tallahassee, Florida at one o'clock Thursday, May 30th Interment will be private. A reception will be held at 11:30am in the Parish Hall.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Holy Comforter Church of Tallahassee, Big Bend Hospice or the charity of your choice in Jean's name.
