Jeanne Aurelia Merli went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 30, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital in Tallahassee, Florida.
She was born Jeanne Aurelia Lopez on May 5, 1917 to Charles Hilery Lopez and Agnes Fitzgerald Blanc. Jeanne was the wife of the late John F. Merli. Jeanne grew up in Brooklyn, New York and graduated from All Saints High School. She became a Registered Professional Nurse and worked at Israel Zion Hospital (where she met her husband John), Methodist Hospital, and Holy Family Hospital. Jeanne and John moved to Boca Raton, Florida in 1991, and Jeanne moved to Tallahassee, Florida in 2004 to live with her loving daughter Jeanne A. Lupo, son-in-law Frank Lupo, and granddaughter April Ann Lupo.
Jeanne Merli was a person of great strength, intelligence, and had an incredible sense of humor. She loved her profession as a nurse and was an avid reader. Jeanne always had a kind word of encouragement and was never a person who complained. She was loved by many people, and at 95 years old she still had friends from many years ago. Even up until the last week of her life, she was on the phone speaking with her friend and former supervisor Alice White Mallory who now resides in Kingman, Arizona.
Jeanne lost her mother when she was very young, around 6 or 7 years old. Her lifelong dream was to meet her mother one day in heaven. Her faith and acceptance of Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior provided that dream to come true on Sunday, September 30, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. Jeanne was truly a blessing to all who knew her. Even though she will be greatly missed, her family rejoices in knowing that she is walking on the streets of glory arm in arm with her loving mother.
Jeanne is survived by her loving children, son John Merli; daughter Jeanne Lupo and son-in-law Frank Lupo; son Francis Xavier Merli; son Joseph Merli and daughter-in-law Linda; five grandsons; three granddaughters; ten great-grandsons; and five great-granddaughters.
The family wishes to thank the many doctors, nurses, caretakers and staff who took care of Jeanne at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. They will always be grateful for the kind and loving way she was treated. Jeanne will be with her husband John, at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida. A memorial service will be held in the future at the gravesite for family and friends at a time and date to be determined.
Please sign Jeanne’s guest book. Family request NO FLOWERS, Please.
