

Joseph Vallese, 81, of Monticello, FL, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, educator, coach, and lifelong athlete whose impact reached far beyond the field or classroom.
Joe is survived by his loving wife, Doris Vallese; his children, Joseph Vallese (Kristin Vallese) and Jill Vallese-Baggett of Tallahassee, FL; his cherished grandchildren, Matthew Baggett and Anna Vallese; his sister, Jessica Hughes of Amherst, NH, and his sister-in-law Barbara Vallese of North Providence, RI. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Josephine (Sisto) Vallese; his brother, Carmine Vallese of Narragansett, RI; and his brother-in-law, Robert Hughes of Amherst, NH.
Born in Providence, RI, Joe discovered his passion for athletics early in life. He was an exceptional baseball player, and football player at Mount Pleasant High School, which led to a college football scholarship.
Joe enlisted in the Army National Guard, allowing him to continue his education. He was stationed at Fort Polk, LA, and honorably discharged in 1963.
Following his military service, Joe attended Adams State College in Alamosa, CO, where he played football and earned All Rocky Mountain Conference honors. He received both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees while continuing to demonstrate the discipline, leadership, and determination that defined his life.
After college, Joe returned to Rhode Island, where he began his distinguished career in education as a teacher and football coach. He completed his career working with special needs children as a physical education teacher. This work became his true passion, and he was deeply committed to helping every child feel capable, included, and valued.
Outside of his professional life, Joe loved boating and fishing, but nothing brought him greater joy than spending time with the people he loved. Whether sharing stories, cheering from the sidelines, or hosting a houseful of friends and family, he was a constant source of strength, encouragement, and love. Joe, known for his quiet generosity, unwavering dedication, and the many lives he touched as a teacher, coach, and mentor, will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
A private family memorial has been planned in his honor.
