

Josephine Mather Nee Varano, age 89, passed away on Wednesday, February 10, 2016. She was born on January 19, 1927 in New Britain, CT to Italian immigrants, Antonio Varano and Mary Gracia Zoccoli Varano, but was raised and lived most of her adult life in South Florida where she was travel agent for AAA National Cruise Lines. Josephine had been living in Tallahassee for the past 12 years. She took great joy in being with her family and friends. “Joey”, as she was known to all of her friends, and “Nonni”, as she will always be remembered by her grandchildren, loved dancing, music, and traveling. Her time spent with those she loved will live on in our memories.
She is preceded in death by her mother and father; and her brother, Vincent Varano. She is survived by her two daughters, Sharman Rodriguez and Shelley Beilman; six grandchildren, Lewis, Tammy, Chelsea, Daphne, Kjell, and Neil; and eight great-grandchildren, Miles, Ethan, Mabel, Malcolm, Otis, Emmit, R. Quinn, and Cady; one brother, John Varano; and one sister, Florence. She leaves behind many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends, especially Robert Derwick, Michael Singer, and Nick Higgins, and her beloved sisters-in-law Victoria and Marie Jo. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Seven Hills Rehab and Nursing Center and Big Bend Hospice, who provided music therapy and a wonderful nursing staff in her last days.
