Upon graduation from Danvers High School, she attended the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, where she majored in psychology and minored in education. Judy then attended Michigan State University, where she obtained a master’s degree in special education and met the love of her life and best friend, Michael Renwick.
Judy and Mike began life on a farm in a small town in Michigan, but eventually Mike’s work brought them to Florida. Judy demanded they live in a “city,” so in 1984, they moved to Tallahassee, Florida.
Those of us who knew and loved Judy knew her as fearless and full of life. She always raised her hand, asked the question, volunteered, offered to help, was up for any adventure, and never took “no” as a final answer. Judy spent her career as an elementary school teacher. She adored teaching children and expanding their horizons. If you were lucky enough to have Mrs. Renwick as a teacher, then you probably had a year of firsts - maybe you went sledding or camping for the first time, or ate in a Chinese restaurant for Chinese New Year, or maybe you worked in the soup kitchen at St. Thomas Moore. Teaching brought Judy so much joy that even in retirement, she spoke often about returning to the classroom.
Judy was someone who never stopped learning. She became a National Board Certified Teacher and, in 2008, obtained her Ph.D. in education from Florida State University. Even after she retired from teaching, Judy continued to expand her knowledge by attending Olli classes at FSU and becoming a Master Gardener - turning her entire yard into a wild and carefree garden. She traveled extensively with her husband, children, and grandchildren. She loved her family fiercely and looked forward to annual adventures like “Nanna Beach Week.” She loved visiting art museums, caves, and seeing Broadway shows. Her “happy place” was always St. George Island, where she returned again and again with family and friends.
Judy is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Julia Musumeci, her husband, Michael Renwick, and her sister and brother-in-law, Janice Renwick and Joseph Alessandrini. She is survived by her three children, Nathan Renwick, Melissa Renwick, and Robert Renwick; and her three grandchildren, Lindsay Renwick, Kailee Renwick, and Austin Renwick.
