Laurence T. McCabe (Larry, or as he is known in his native Ireland, Lorcan), age 74, a retired flight engineer, and a resident of Titusville, Florida, passed away at Parrish Medical Center in Titusville on February 16, 2017.
The son of Margaret Cunningham (Desmond) and the late Gerard McCabe, Larry was born in Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan, Ireland, on August 10, 1942. He immigrated to the United States when he was 17 years old, became a citizen at age 18, and joined the United States Air Force where he served for 21 years. After retiring from the Air Force, he worked as a flight engineer for various charter and cargo airlines, and retired from them in 2004. He attended St. Teresa Catholic Church and was a volunteer at the Valiant Air Command Warbird Museum.
He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Barbara McCabe, his son, Phillip McCabe (Suzanne), Phillip's mother, Laura Asaro, two sisters, Myra Mannion (Jimmy) of Dublin, Ireland, and Geraldine Gracias (Frank) of Leistershire, England.
Among his many talents was his ability to fix anything that went wrong with his house and he loved to help take care of his mother-in-law's house as well. What he loved to work on even more than that was his cars. He was very mechanically minded. Due to his perseverance he always figured it out.
Services will be on Saturday, February 25 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel at Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home, 700 Timberlane Rd., Tallahassee, with viewing and family visitation at 10:00 a.m.
This is a celebration of his life, so the family asks that you wear your favorite color, not black unless that is your favorite color.
