

Lena Joan Deeb, 91, of Tallahassee, FL, died Thursday, May 30, 2013 (her chosen Saint's day) at home with a few family and friends.
Visitation will be 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., Monday, June 3, 2013, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with Rosary at 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2: 00 p.m., Tuesday, June 4, 2013, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with committal for family at 4:30 p.m. at Old City Cemetery, Tallahassee, FL. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions for memorials or masses to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church or to Trinity Catholic School (623 Miccosukee Road, Tallahassee, FL 32308) or to Father Flanagan's Girl's and Boy's Town of North Florida (3555 Commonwealth Blvd, Tallahassee, FL 32303).
Miss Deeb was born July 3, 1921, in Tallahassee, FL, daughter of the prominent Lebanese Christian family of Joseph and Sarah Deeb, who immigrated from Zahale, Lebanon. The family home at 214 South Calhoun Street was later used as the first LeMoyne Art Gallery. Miss Deeb was a graduate of Leon High School, worked and lived with the Sisters of St. Joseph in St. Augustine, FL, employed by the State of Florida and dedicated herself as Sacristan of Blessed Sacrament Church for over 60 years. She started her commitment to the Catholic Church at age 14 and served as an Eucharistic Minister, and in all positions open to a lay member. Miss Deeb will be remembered for her direction to ALL in their church activities and fervent prayers for the benefit of one or many, especially "the least of mine".
Miss Deeb is survived by many nephews and nieces: Katie Deeb (Mrs. Richard) and Marilyn Deeb (Mrs. Roy) of St. Petersburg, FL, Dr. Robert M. Deeb (Daytona Beach, FL), Juliette D. O'Connell (Robert), Ruth Demetree (George J.), Joan H.Thomas (Ted), Deeno Kitchen (Patty), Kent Deeb (Tara), Dr. Larry Deeb (Jo), Angela McCloy (Jim), Marcia D. Thornberry (Robert), Julia Carol Love (Donald), Sarah Lawson (Joel), all of Tallahassee, Dr. Deeb Paul Kitchen, I, of Fairfax Station, VA, Angielina K. Bouda of Jacksonville, FL and many great nephews, nieces, cousins and Godchildren, especially Michael O'Connell.
Miss Deeb was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Michael J. Deeb of Daytona Beach, FL, George J. Deeb, a builder in St. Petersburg, Charles H. Deeb, a well known realtor and developer and Syde P. Deeb, an entrepreneur and philanthropist, both of Tallahassee, FL; and sisters, Julia D. Demetree, Rose D. Kitchen, one of the first 150 Lady Lawyers in Florida, Lila D. Hanna and Mary A. Deeb her best friend and dear sister. Two sisters, Louisa and Philomena died as children.
