

Born October 1, 1938 near Dothan Alabama, to Tom Espy, and Pera V. Kennedy, he was a 1957 graduate of Midland City High School (Midland City, Alabama), and moved to Tallahassee in 1984. After graduation Lowell spent several years serving in the United States Army Reserves and two years attending Southern Union College in Wadley Alabama.
Lowell is survived by his loving wife Shirley of 48 years, one son, Frederick L. Kennedy, two daughters Monica Kennedy Payne (Terry) of Tallahassee, and Sherri Kennedy Plenge (Nicholas) of Birmingham Alabama, four grandchildren: Nathan and Justin Payne of Tallahassee, Cody and Bailey Kennedy, also of Tallahassee, and four brothers: Dwight (Mathel), Rayburn (Jo) and Theophilus (Laura) Kennedy of Headland Alabama, Creig (Mary Ann) Kennedy of Greenville South Carolina and many other nieces, nephews and cousins.
Lowell was an active member of Lakeview Baptist Church and most recently served as “house dad” for the Alpha Delta Phi sorority at Florida State University, after retiring from a rewarding 37-year career with the United States Department of Agriculture - Food and Nutrition Division. A devoted family man and avid sportsman who preferred staying active, Lowell loved to hunt and fish and spent many of the latter years of his life pursuing these activities on a regular basis. Anyone that knew him was captured by his optimistic, upbeat personality and these traits followed him throughout all aspects of his life. Lowell enjoyed spending much of his free time outdoors or attending Florida State football and baseball games. In addition, Lowell was famous for his fish fry’s which usually managed to draw a large crowd.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30pm on Saturday, March 19, 2011 at Lakeview Baptist Church, 222 West 7th Avenue, Tallahassee, Florida 32303 followed by visitation from 3-5pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Lakeview Baptist Church.
