

Lowell Eugene McCoy, age 83, passed away on February 9, 2016 at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. He was born in Chattahoochee, FL on June 19, 1932 to John Alfred McCoy and Helen McDonald McCoy and moved to Tallahassee in March 1945. He graduated from Leon High School in 1951.
Lowell joined the Marines in August of 1951 and after completing boot camp in Parris Island, South Carolina, he was sent to Camp Pendleton for combat training. Afterward he deployed to South Korea to join Weapons Company, 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division as a mortar man where he was later wounded Nov. 4, 1952 and afterwards spent several months on a hospital ship recovering. He then returned to his Division in early 1953. Later, he was stationed in Jacksonville, FL; in Quantico, VA; Hawaii; Camp Lejeune, NC; and Okinawa, Japan. He finished his military career at Camp Pendleton California in 1963.
Lowell was preceded in death by his mother and father and two brothers, William Robert McCoy and John Allen McCoy. He is survived by his children, Janis Price (Ed), Judith Myers (Ron), Kerry Nolen (Mac), Colin McCoy (Amanda), Phillip McCoy (Linda), fifteen grandchildren, and six greatgrandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings Edward Thomas McCoy (Sue), David Rodney McCoy (Annie), both of Tallahassee, FL; Kenneth Martin McCoy (Esther) of Otter Creek, FL, and Lynda Sloan (Jay) of Crawfordville, FL.
