Martha Cave Odom

Martha was born in Jacksonville, Fl. – the youngest of 8 children. In Martha’s family, money was scarce but love was abundant. The family moved to a farm in Madison, Florida when Martha was eight years old. The Cave family grew corn and tobacco on their 160 acre farm.

The Cave family loved to tease and play tricks on each other. Martha gave as well as she received. In later years Martha and her siblings met for Thanksgiving and regaled each other and the next generations with hilarious stories.

Martha met Perry while they attended F.S.U. They wed on March 11, 1951. What followed was a joyful, loving marriage of 59 years and four children, Perry Jr. a/k/a Chuck (Paula) Odom, Steve (Nelia) Odom, Kim (George) Meros, and Jason (Janet) Odom; 9 Grandchildren; and 12 Great Grandchildren.

After completing their time at F.S.U. they moved to Madison with their first born child, Perry Jr., to teach at Greenville High School. Martha also coached the girls’ basketball team.

From Madison they moved to Jacksonville where Steve and Kim were born. In 1959 they decided to be farmers again and bought a chicken farm in Whitehouse, Fl.

In 1961 Perry decided he wanted to go to Law School so the family moved to Gainesville where Martha worked at Shands Hospital. After graduation they moved back to Tallahassee where their fourth child, Jason, was born.

Martha spent many years in Tallahassee supporting school activities for her children and assisting teachers. Martha also worked at the Leon County Blood Bank making calls to donors. Martha loved attending all church activities. Martha was a loyal and supportive Seminoles fan.

Martha and Perry shared a deep and abiding love of the Lord. They are now joined together in the peace of the Lord that passes all understanding.
