Michael was born on March 28, 1955 to Don and Phyllis Bodin in Youngstown, Ohio. After graduating from Boardman High School in 1973, he went on to enlist in the United States Navy where he served as a Fire Control Missile Technician. When asked what Fire Control meant he would always respond “I did not put out the fires, I started them.”
After his military service, he went into the private sector, which launched a lifetime career working with technology. He eventually retired as a Senior Systems Design Analyst with CCLA (College Center for Library Automation) in 2019.
In 1986, while working in New York for Leeds & Northrup, he met his wife, Pamela, at IBM. They wed in 1987, going on to have two children, Zachary and Tyler.
Throughout his life, Michael impacted so many people. He loved spending time with his “sweetie” Pam and simply waking up next to her every morning. They enjoyed going to concerts, seeing plays, and having TV watching dates. His big personality and quips enabled him to be a wonderful storyteller who entertained family, friends, and even strangers. He lived for the quality time spent with his sons and the marathon phone calls with his beloved sisters. His wizard-like ability to troubleshoot any issue and incredible navigation skills made him an invaluable colleague and mentor. The last few years he found new joy in connecting with longtime neighbors at weekly driveway gatherings and walking his dog, Maggie. Every Christmas season he took great pride in decorating his home, and was recognized many times by the Tour of Lights. He also enjoyed home improvement projects and woodworking, making toys and furniture for his granddaughters. His chex mix recipe was the perfect complement to watching his three favorite teams: the Florida State Seminoles, the Kansas City Chiefs, and the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Michael was predeceased by his parents, Don and Phyllis Bodin; his in-laws, Henry and Eleanor Rath; his brother-in-law, Roderick Rath; and his sister, Jean Bodin. He is survived by his loving wife, Pamela Bodin; sons, Zachary Bodin (Becca) and Tyler Bodin; sisters, Lynn Wombold, Jan Miller (Scott), and Ann Crosley (Dan); brother-in-law, Ronald Rath (Cindy); granddaughters, Amelia Bodin and Lyla Bodin; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive family and friends at 5:30pm on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home (700 Timberlane Rd). A memorial service will follow at 6:30pm.
