

Born in Al-Sharqia, Egypt, and raised in Cairo, Egypt, Mounir lived his early life with faith, resilience, curiosity, and a deep devotion to his family. He ventured to the United States in 1969 living across Jersey City, NJ, Champaign-Urbana, IL and Tallahassee, FL which became his longtime home.
Mounir earned his Master’s degree in Social Work and received his PhD in Leisure Studies from the University of Illinois. He went on to serve as Professor Emirates at Florida State University in the Department of Sport and Recreation Management, College of Education, where he dedicated many years to teaching, mentoring, and contributing to the academic community.
Mounir was many things to many people but what stood out the most was his generous spirit. He was also extremely dedicated, compassionate, curious, adventurous, and had the best sense of humor. A devout member of St. Mary and St. George Coptic Orthodox Church in Tallahassee, FL, Mounir’s faith remained a guiding force throughout his life.
Mounir achieved so much in life, but his ultimate joy was his family. Nothing meant more to him than his children and grandchildren, who were his deepest pride and greatest blessing. He will be remembered as a devoted father and grandfather, a man of strong character and warm spirit, and someone who gave of himself generously to others. In keeping with his wishes, his family chooses to celebrate his life with gratitude, love, and joy.
Mounir was predeceased by his parents, Girgis Ragheb and Zahia Ragheb, and by his sister, Mary Ragheb. He is survived by his brothers, Sami Ragheb, Ghaly Ragheb, and George Ragheb; his children, Sharif Ragheb, Nader Ragheb, and Dena Ragheb; his grandchildren, Noor Weiss and Lilou Weiss; and his son-in-law, Ricky Weiss.
Funeral services will be held on April 13, 2026, at 11:00am-12:30pm at St. Mary and St. George Coptic Orthodox Church, 4279 Bradfordville Road, Tallahassee, FL 32309.
The burial will immediately follow the service at 1:00 p.m. at Culley’s MeadowWood Memorial Park, located at 700 Timberlane Road, Tallahassee, FL 32312, followed by a gathering for family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, and in the spirit of Mounir’s generous nature, his family asks that donations be made to St. Mary and St. George Coptic Orthodox Church through the church’s donation page. Please include “Mounir Ragheb” in the notes to ensure the funds are distributed per his wishes.
