Nonnye Babbitt Grant, 87, passed away on Friday, May 9, 2025 at St. Augustine Plantation Assisted Living Facility in Tallahassee, Florida. She was born in Albany, Georgia on November 5, 1937 to the late Clarence Leroy Babbitt and Nonnye Walden Babbitt.
Nonnye graduated from Leon High School in Tallahassee, Fl. She studied at Florida State University.
She was married to the late Bobby Franklin Grant of Asheville, North Carolina. Bobby and Nonnye lived in North Carolina several years before returning to Tallahassee. They were married fifteen years.
For many years Nonnye was a dental assistant for Dr. John Simpson. Later she began working at the Public Service Commission (PSC) as a data analyst. That job led to a forty-six plus year career with the PSC.
Nonnye was passionate about her career, arriving at work early and working diligently. She enjoyed her work. She made many work -related friends, many of which she regularly communicated with as long as she lived. Nonnye loved to shop, finding many treasures over the years. She regularly gifted her friends and “family” with her found treasures. She found joy in the companionship of her beloved Skippy. In fact she had three dogs named Skippy-Skippy 1, Skippy 2, and Skippy 3 over the years. All were beautiful Boston Terriers. Nonnye loved flowers, although not a gardener. She was a regular contributor to numerous local and national charitable organizations.
In later years, Nonnye was affectionately adopted as “Aunt Nonnye” into the Tatum/Irwin/Ayers families in Marianna, Florida. She enjoyed many happy visits and occasions with her adopted family. Nonnye has been fortunate to have had very good neighbors who have been attentive and helpful, always looking out for her and checking on her.
We would like to thank Big Bend Hospice for their compassionate care and helpfulness through the last weeks of Nonnye’s earthly life.
A public visitation for Nonnye will be held Friday, May 16, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 10:30 AM at Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home, 700 Timberlane Road, Tallahassee, Florida 32312, followed by a funeral service from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM.
