Patricia Ash

Patricia (“Pat”) Ash (nee McWeeney), age 86, passed away in her home in Tallahassee, FL, on June 17, 2022. She was born April 25, 1936, in St. Louis, MO, where she lived most of her life; she was the 5th of 6 children of John and Rose (nee Miller) McWeeney.

As a young girl, she was inspired to dance, loving tap most! She tried out at the Muny! She graduated from St. Mark’s High School, St. Louis, MO. She aspired to be a doctor, starting college at St. Louis University. However, she met the love of her life and married instead, moving to Plattsburgh, NY, where he was stationed in the Air Force. At 23 (on her b-day/same day as the opening of the St. Lawrence Seaway), she was on her solo flight to complete her pilot’s license–if it had been today’s time, she would have sparked an international incident, as she crossed over into Canada. The Royal Canadian AF kindly escorted her down, gave her gas, and wondered what this young woman, without a radio, was doing there. She said men were everywhere asking her who her father was?! She worked as a movie theater ticket/popcorn girl, commissary buyer, waitress, grocery checker, and secretary, retiring in 1993 from Chevrolet Motor Division as a Contractual Administrator, Maryland Heights, MO. She was known for being fiercely independent–and was right until the end!

She is survived by her daughter, Colleen Mixson (Kerry), Quincy, FL. Two grandsons, Ryan Mixson (Emily), Winfield, MO, and Andrew Mixson, Rome, Italy. One great-granddaughter, Angelia Mixson. Special friends Janet Long, Anne Murphy, Pat Simon, Sr. Delores Shortal, Nell Stranburg, Isolde Violante, Wendy Soto, and the Women’s Bible Study Group of Blessed Sacrament Church. She will be cremated and buried at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Florissant, MO.

Masses being said on July 26, 2022, at 5:30 PM at Blessed Sacrament Church, Tallahassee, FL, and on July 1, 2022, at 7 AM at St. John Bosco Church, St. Louis, MO. A Celebration of Life Memorial is TBD. In lieu of flowers, donations to Leon County Humane Society, Tallahassee, FL, or Humane Society of Missouri, St. Louis.
