Penny was born October 7, 1943, in Indianapolis, Indianna to Harold Reid and Pauline Iliff. She moved to Hialeah, Florida and after high school met the love of her life, Leonard Blaszczyk, who was stationed at Homestead, AFB, they married July 21, 1961, just before moving to the upper Peninsula of Michigan. While in Michigan they adopted two daughters, Jessica, and Melissa. After leaving Michigan she followed her husband to Warner Robins AFB, Georgia, U Tapao AFB, Thailand and Grand Forks AFB, North Dakota, where they retired from the Air Force.
After retiring from the military, the family moved to Tallahassee, Florida in 1979, where she became a Labor and Delivery Nurse at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital and worked for over 20 years. She was married to her husband for almost 61 years.
Penny was a loving and giving person, full of grace and mercy. She loved to travel, quilt, bake, and serve the Lord. Although she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and had many challenges she never complained or let this stop her from doing anything. She always served the Lord with gladness. She helped start a Prayer Quilt ministry at her church, making over 400 prayer quilts, which allowed others to be covered in prayers, and always making sure people knew they were rechargeable with prayers. Penny’s passion in Christ is what drove her, she wanted to be sure that everyone had the keys to heaven. She witnessed for Jesus until her last breath. She fervently prayed nightly over her children, grandchildren, family, friends, church, and the world nightly. Her legacy is her never-ending faithfulness to the Lord.
She was a born-again Christian and a faithful member of Thomasville Road Baptist Church. She was a dedicated wife, mother, Nana, and Little Nana and is survived in death by her daughters Jessica Blaszczyk and Melissa Norris (Waylon Carter) grandchildren, Kristen Slagle, Christopher Slagle, Rebecca Norris, Deborah Norris and great grandchildren, Kayla Chambers, Tyler Boykin, Cameron Boykin, Emily Davis, and Lillian Warren.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the North Florida MS Society in her honor. (https://events.nationalmssociety.org/participant/PENNYBLASZCZYK)
