
He earned his Ph.D. at Cornell University and worked as a professor at Florida Atlantic in Boca Raton for over 40 years, retiring in 2012. Robert taught linguistics and French and was well-loved by the many students he guided throughout the decades. Before serving in the Army from 1963-65, he finished his B.A. in English at L.S.U. He had passions for snow skiing, fishing, scuba diving, boating, football, and water skiing, but he especially loved his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his two sons, Michael and Barry; his daughter-in-law, Mary Jane Ryals; his grandchildren, Dylan, Ariel, Dorian, Dane, and Anya; his stepchildren, Sherry and Edward; and his step-grandchildren, Marcie, Callie, and Ashley.
In keeping with his wishes, no formal services will be held.
