Roslyn was born in Bainbridge, Georgia on June 27, 1945 to Cole and Bernice Woodward. She was the eldest of four children and a proud big sister to her brothers Eddie, Charles, and Jimmy while growing up in Quincy, Florida. She played piano and organ in church every Sunday.
Roslyn graduated from Quincy High School and enjoyed keeping up with all her classmates over the years. At their ten-year class reunion, Roslyn was voted Best Looking Female. She enjoyed their monthly luncheons for years and was looking forward to their upcoming sixtieth reunion.
After high school, Roslyn went on to attend Andrew College and Florida State University. She was a dedicated, lifelong fan of the Seminoles and proudly supported her alma mater. She enjoyed tailgating and watching the football games with friends for many years, and hardly missed a game on TV in recent years. She could yell at the refs with the best of them. College also brought friendships into her life that she would cherish until the end, especially her "Gold Friend" Linda.
After college, Roslyn spent time working as an interior designer for a prestigious firm in South Florida. She also worked as a recruiter for Barbizon Modeling Agency, which afforded her the opportunity to pack up her Volkswagen Beetle convertible and head west to Phoenix, Arizona to establish operations there and have a grand solo adventure. After returning to Florida, she worked in various real estate and interior design-related fields, as well as for FSU’s College of Business. Her last working years were spent doing interior design with her close friend, Ron, though it could hardly be called work with those two.
Roslyn met the love of her life, Rudy, while showing him an apartment for rent as a property manager. It was love at first sight. The two of them put a lot of effort into trying to get it right over the years. Even though their relationship ultimately couldn’t be worked out, the two of them were able to spend their last years as friends. She never stopped loving him and was forever grateful for the gifts of her faith and their child.
Roslyn converted to Catholicism after meeting Rudy and falling in love with the Church. Her faith was central to her identity, spending years quietly volunteering in various ministries, and was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church for more than 30 years. It is a blessing that she was able to receive the Last Rights sacrament before her passing.
Roslyn’s daughter, Kristin, was born in 1979 and became the center of her world. There are hardly any photographs of Roslyn by herself after that point - being a mother was her identity and who she always wanted to be. She spent the rest of her days dedicated to being the biggest cheerleader and encourager around. While raising her only daughter on her own, Roslyn was known to acquire extra kids in Kristin’s friends who loved spending time at their house and often called her Mama Roz.
The only thing greater than being a mother, was becoming a Nana to her three grandchildren, Kathryn, Mark, and Tyler. Roslyn was beyond proud of each of them and treasured any time she could spend with them.
Roslyn never met a stranger and made new friends everywhere she went. Her laugh and smile were truly infectious. She loved to tell stories about her life and family to anyone who would listen, even when they didn’t want to hear them. She was truly creative and had the soul of an artist.
Roslyn’s entire life was dedicated to her family and the people she loved. She will be deeply missed by all who loved her in return.
Some lessons everyone can learn from Roslyn’s examples:
Laugh loudly, and as often as you can.
Take adventures.
Be an encourager, the world has enough critics.
Live your life fully for as long as you can, you get to live it all over again through your memories.
Rest is important.
Be silly.
Embrace your creativity, no matter what it looks like.
Look for the beauty in the mundane.
And, most importantly, love unconditionally and without expectation.
