

Russell P. Kropp, of Tallahassee, died April 18, 2012. He was born in Tamaqua, Pennsylvania, on July 11, 1927. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and later served in the U.S. Air Force. He came to Tallahassee in 1953 to accept a faculty position at Florida State University. During the next 42 years he served in a variety of faculty and administrative positions at FSU. He received a research doctorate from the University of Illinois in 1953 and an honorary doctorate from Flagler College in St. Augustine, Florida, in 1991. The Florida Educational Research Association honors him by bestowing an annual award in his name.
He is survived by his brothers, Robert and David, of Pennsylvania; by his daughters, Dianne (Peter) Hantos of Los Angeles, California, and Deborah (Mario) Gisbert of Panama City Beach, Florida; by his son, Steven, of Tallahassee; by his granddaughter, Elaine; and by Gail Rayner, the woman with whom he shared his life since 1997.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, and his son, David.
A private family remembrance will be held at a later date. Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
