

Sandy Perkins passed away peacefully early Tuesday morning, July 30, 2013 at Big Bend Hospice House in Tallahassee, Florida. Born in LaPorte, Indiana on November 28, 1949, the daughter of Virginia and David Perkins she was raised in Linville, North Carolina. Later in life she moved to Port Charlotte, Florida to work at her families’ restaurant.
Sandy attended Edison Community College and then matriculated to Florida State University where she granduated with a B.S. in Physical Education. Sandy was a member of the FSU Woman’s softball team and bled Garnet and Gold. She also played on a nationally ranked Sonny’s BBQ softball team that was runner up to the national slow pitch champion in Sacramento, California in 1983. In her spare time Sandy enjoyed watching both professional and collegiate athletics.
Sandy entered the restaurant profession after college and became a valued employee of Sonny’s BBQ working in Tallahassee for 32 years. With her outgoing personality and welcoming smile customers became long time friends.
She is survived by three aunts, Kaye Ellis, Jean Johnson Dorothy Burkes as well as numerous cousins; she was preceded by her parents Virginia and David Perkins. A celebration of Sandy’s life will be celebrated at Culley’s Meadowwood Funeral Home, 1737 Riggins Road, Tallahassee on August 10, 2013, at 10:30 a.m.
