Born in Marshall, Michigan, to Nancy Ziebell (Wilson) and the late Bruce C. Harrison, Scott spent his early childhood summers on the family farm; a place that would remain dear to him throughout his life. His time on the family farm instilled in him a lifelong appreciation for hard work, craftsmanship, and the beauty of nature.
Scott graduated from Eau Galle High School in Melbourne, Florida, in 1979, then proudly served his country as a military police officer in the United States Army while stationed in Germany. Following his honorable discharge, he pursued higher education with the same dedication he brought to every endeavor, earning dual Bachelor’s degrees in Business and German from Florida State University and later a Master of Science in Computer Science from Washington State University.
A gifted problem-solver with an endlessly curious mind, Scott built a career in technology, most recently as a software engineer with Syntech Systems in Tallahassee, Florida. His professional accomplishments were matched by his many personal passions. A master woodworker, he created unique, hand-crafted pieces for family and friends, each one a lasting testament to his skill and generosity. In retirement, he returned to his roots, establishing a 130-acre hardwood tree farm on the site of his family’s original homestead in Michigan.
Scott’s life was rich with shared interests—computer programming, bird watching, welding, woodworking, fly-fishing and reading—which he enjoyed alongside his wife, children, and grandchildren. He will be remembered for his sharp wit, warm humor, tireless work ethic, and brilliant, inquisitive mind. Above all, Scott was devoted to his family, a steady and loving presence whose guidance and care shaped their lives.
He is survived by his wife and partner of many years, Suzanne Marie Leonard (Harrison); his mother, Nancy Ziebell Wilson of Melbourne, Florida; his four children, Sierra (Cody) Leis of Statesville, NC; Aaron (Kelly) Harrison of Brisbane, Australia; Ryan (Rachel) Hutcheson of Portland, Oregon; and Lisa (Justin) Eilertsen of Ann Arbor, Michigan; and his eight cherished grandchildren: Levi Leis; Carter and Beau Harrison; Connor and Hailee Hutcheson; and Lena, Cora, and Wyatt Eilertsen. He also leaves behind two sisters, Lynn Mullinax and Lesley (Jeff) Baron of Melbourne, Florida; his brother-in-law, Steven (Kari) Leonard; two nephews; three nieces; and his beloved golden retrievers, Tawny and Ginger. Mr. Harrison was preceded in death by his father, Bruce Harrison, his step-father, John Wilson, and two uncles, Brian Harrison and Peter Ziebell.
Scott’s family will carry forward his legacy of curiosity, craftsmanship, and compassion. His presence will be deeply missed, but the lessons he taught and the love he gave will remain forever. His life will be celebrated in a private memorial service at the family farm in Michigan.
