Shirley M. Eikeland

Shirley Mathis Eikeland, 69 of Tallahassee, FL died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2014 while under the loving care of Big Bend Hospice. Shirley was born in Tampa, FL on January 13, 1945. She moved to Tallahassee in 1972. She was a lifelong educator, holding various positions including teacher, principal and Asst.Superintendent. She possessed a gift for mentoring others. Shirley was a very active member of First Baptist Church. She loved traveling, and found great joy in time spent caring for her family. Shirley is survived by her husband of 42 years, Jim Eikeland of Tallahassee; sons Jim (Beverly) Eikeland, Jr., Erik ( Lisa) Eikeland, both of Tallahassee, and John (Chaille) Eikeland of Bristol; Brother J.L. (Ellie) Mathis and sister Charlene (Dave) Young both of Tampa; 8 Grandchildren and 4 Great-Grandchildren.She is preceded in death by her parents Bea and James Mathis as well as brother, Donald Mathis. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, Dec. 1, 2014 at 1:30 PM at First Baptist Church, 108 W College Ave, Tallahassee, FL 32301, with a reception to follow.
