Stephen was born in Halifax, Yorkshire, on the 13th October 1947. He was a beautiful baby and loved by all the family. As he grew he became a studious boy becoming a prefect at his school. He then got his electrician apprenticeship and went to work as an electrician instead of furthering his education. He married at a young age and sadly that ended, but they had a son. He then moved to Cleethorpes where he then came into my life.
I first saw him walking down the road with my older brother and for a few years I used to introduce him as a family friend not knowing what was in front of us. Things blossomed and we were married on May 7, 1976. His job status at that time was electrician Supervisor, and through the years he moved up the ladder after many long hours working and improving his education.
While in his work, he was sent to all over the world, including Thailand and Malaysia, were we lived for 3 1/2 years. This lifestyle made him realize he loved working and doing things he loved to do. We were sent home for one year and then moved to the USA. For the first few years, he worked in Georgia running a mineral company. At the sale of that company is when he decided to work on his own. While here, we traveled round America and grew to love the lifestyle of this wonderful country. In 2000, he was made a US citizen and said he would never live in England again.
Just over a year and a half ago he found he had lung cancer and had the lung removed hoping it would be the end of that; this was his first illness in his life with me. The first year he struggled with pain, but never showed it outside the home, and we tried so hard to go back to the lifestyle we had prior to the illness.
In June, he found 3 weeks available from Chemo so with that time he went to England and Tenerife to have his last look, and see the family, and the places he lived and worked in. Still fighting the disease, we managed to try and live life as normal. But alas, on our last visit to Moffett, they told him he was loosing his battle and with that he deteriorated quickly and was in more pain than normal.
He took his last breath in peace and quiet on Friday the 4th of February 2011 at 5pm.
Funeral services will be held at Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home at Timberlane Road Chapel at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, February 10, 2011. A reception in the MeadowWood Room for friends and family will follow the service.
Arrangements are under the direction of Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home, Tallahassee, FL.
