Steve was born in Bloomsburg, PA, on April 12, 1961, to Horace Hess Laubach and Sandra Rowley Laubach, and grew up in the idyllic town of Berwick, PA.
He graduated with honors from Berwick Senior High School in 1979 and went on to earn his undergraduate degree from Bloomsburg State University in 1983. He completed his doctorate degree from Pennsylvania College of Optometry in 1987. Steve traveled to Florida to complete his internship in Miami for 18 months before joining CHP Eyecare in the fall of 1988. It was in Florida where he met the love of his life, Christine, and they made Tallahassee their home.
As a Board-Certified Optometric Physician for over three decades in Tallahassee, Steve served his patients at Capital Health Plan Eyecare and in his private practice before his retirement. He provided his patients with thorough, skilled and professional care, spending extra time if needed, especially with his older patients. He always greeted everyone with a smile and his humor and good-natured disposition won him favor with staff, colleagues, and patients alike.
He is survived by his wife of almost 37 years, Christine (DeAngelo) Laubach, and devoted sons Andrew and Alexander. He is also survived by his mother Sandra Laubach, mother-in-law Virginia DeAngelo, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Elaine and Glenn Luker, brother-in-law Thomas Siro, and nephews Matt and Josh Luker, Michael Siro (Sara Siro), niece Christina Siro Spinelle, great nephews Jackson and James Siro, and first cousins Polly Laubach and Randy Laubach.
Steve was a dedicated family man and loved his sons unconditionally. He was their biggest ally and supporter. He took great joy in their accomplishments and spending time together. He had many longtime friends near and far, and cherished them immensely, and loved his pal Koda, a loyal Miniature Schnauzer.
He was preceded in death by his father Horace Hess Laubach and dear sister Gayle Laubach Siro, and many loving aunts’ uncles and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held in his honor at Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Home, 700 Timberlane Road, Tallahassee, Florida 32312 on Saturday, January 24 2026, from 11a.m. until 1:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you take a moment to hug your loved ones, cherish them and forgive any grievances. Speak with kindness, be compassionate and keep in touch with family and friends. Life is precious.
Steve’s legacy of compassion for his patients and love and devotion to his family will live on forever. We will miss his kindness and humor every day.
