Tom joined the Philadelphia Police department in 1966 where he was assigned to the 6th District, then went to work in the Juvenile Aide Division. After working in JAD, Tom went on to work for the Civil Affairs Unit where he worked gang control. Tom was a very well respected Police Officer. He had the honor of being a body guard for a couple of Philadelphia's Mayors. From Civil Affairs, Tom worked in the Traffic Unit before retiring after 26 years of service in 1992. After retiring Tom continued working on a part-time basis for the Philadelphia Academy of Fine Arts and Fox Chase Cancer Center as a Security Officer.
Tom and his late wife, Jeanette moved to Tallahassee, Florida in 2003, where Tom continued his part-time career working as a Security Guard for Capital Regional Medical Center and later went on to work as a Security Guard for the Govrnor's Square Mall.
Mr. Lipsey is survived by his 4 daughters, Kimberly Rooney (Joseph) of Tallahassee, FL; Christina Lipsey, of Philadelphia, PA; Cathryn Hilty (William) of Philadelphia, PA, and Sharon Pearce (Robert) of Kingsley, PA.
Mr. Lipsey was the proud Grandfather of 8 grandchildren who include Edward Morrissey, Jennifer Besczezynski, Destiny Hilty, Amber Weihe, Payton Hilty, Melisa Pearce, John Pearce, and Sean Lipsey. He also had the pleasure of having a great-granddaughter, Hannah.
Visitation in Tallahassee will be held on Wednesday, May 31st from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Culley's Meadow Wood Funeral Home.
Visitation and Mass will be held in Philadelphia on Saturday, June 10th at 10:30EST, at Holy Nativity Episcopal Church, Rockledge, PA, followed by a Christian Burial at Arlington Cemetery, 2900 State Road, Drexel Hill, PA. Times will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, Thomas' daughters request that donations be made in their father's name to either, Big Bend Hospice of Tallahassee; Philadelphia Police Benevolent Foundation; or Fox Chase Cancer and Research Hospital in Philadelphia.
