

97th birthday. She was born on September 14, 1922, in Warren, Ohio, the daughter of Guy Weyer Miller
and Jeannette Bonar Miller.
When she was in elementary school, her family moved to Columbus, Ohio where her father worked for
The Ohio State University. She graduated from North High School in 1940 and Oberlin College in 1944
with a degree in political science.
After graduation, she enlisted in the Women’s Army Corps. She had a choice of locations to serve and
chose Miami. There she met her future husband, Maxwell Lepper. They were married in Columbus, Ohio
in August 1946 and for their wedding trip they drove back to Miami where Maxwell had been hired as a
professor of music at the University of Miami.
She worked as a stenographer in the Psychology Department of the University of Miami and then when
her older daughter was born, became a stay at home mom. After raising her daughters, she went back
into the workforce, as a clerk in the Emergency Department of Baptist Hospital, Kendall, FL.
While her daughters were growing up, she volunteered in several organizations. She was an Assistant
Girl Scout Leader in her daughters’ troop, and held various offices in AAUW, Church Women United,
League of Women Voters, Democratic Power, The Bromeliad Society, and was a Patroness of Sigma
Alpha Iota Music Fraternity. She supported many progressive environmental and social organizations.
In retirement, she traveled with her sister-in-law, Bess, to many parts of the world: Great Britain, Europe,
China, up the Amazon River and through the Panama Canal.
She moved to Tallahassee, FL in 2013 and lived in Allegro where she made many friends and enjoyed
crafts and bingo. Her family would like to thank all those who cared for and loved her.
She was predeceased by her parents and her husband, Max and her sister-in-law, Bessie Lepper. She is
survived by two daughters, Barbara Crandall (Dave) of Tallahassee and Janet Siegel (Rick) of Los Angeles and four grandchildren, Kelly Crandall (Justin), Kaitlyn Crandall (Andy), Amanda Siegel (Ben)
and Sam Siegel (Camille).
Burial is planned for the Tallahassee National Cemetery at a later date.
