Born in Columbia, South Carolina, Doug graduated from Titusville High School, Florida State University, Nova Southeastern University Law School, and the LLM in taxation program at the University of Florida School of Law. Doug is a retired Tallahassee attorney who enjoyed cast-netting and fishing at Alligator Point, and tooling around with his dogs. He is fondly remembered for his larger than life personality, endless intellectual curiosity, brilliant legal mind, debate skills, love of animals, and empathy for the underdog. He had many eclectic interests, hobbies, and self-taught skills. During his retirement Doug kept busy with various projects, especially those that involved working with his hands, such as wood carving, drawing, and home renovating. That was the one and only Doug.
Doug is survived by his beloved "B-Bird," Karen Brodeen; his daughter, Megan Stuart Olson; her husband, Christopher Henry Olson and their children Wyatt Henry Olson, 2 and Tucker Boone Olson, 10 wks; his brother, Philip Moody; his niece, Christa Moody. He was predeceased by his father, Walter Douglas Moody, Sr., a retired Air Force colonel and NASA engineer; his mother, Betty Moody Halcomb; and his brother, James Coates Moody. Yes, Doug was a grandfather-twice over.
A private memorial service will be held at Alligator Point to be arranged at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Wakulla County Animal Shelter or, as Doug would want you to do, adopt a fur baby.
