

He was born in Ft. Myers, Florida, and graduated from Ft. Myers High School. He was employed by Florida Power & Light Company for 39 years as a Customer Services Supervisor at various locations in Southwest Florida. He was one of the five original charter members who founded the Sertoma Club of Venice, Florida.
In 1989, he retired and moved to Crawfordville from Venice, Florida. He was an avid Florida Gator fan. He loved to hunt and fish and really loved the land he lived on near Wakulla Station.
He is survived by his wife of 36- ½ years, Joicelyn H. Powers; a sister, Betty Jo Nicholas; two daughters, Catherine Haugen and Rhonda Venuto (John); a stepson, Robert S. Harris; five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
In accordance with Walt’s wishes, the family will not hold a formal funeral or memorial service. The family wishes to express many thanks and much appreciation for all who cared for him, especially the staff at Tallahassee Memorial Care, Dr. Jean Murphy, and all staff at Covenant Hospice and the Lake Ellen Baptist Church Respite Care program. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Covenant Hospice at 1921 Capital Circle, N.E., Tallahassee, or to the Lake Ellen Baptist Church Respite Care Program at 4495 Crawfordville Highway, Crawfordville.
