William (Bill) John Drescher, age 94, died on September 7, 2012 at Big Bend Hospice House in Tallahassee, Florida.
He was born and raised in Brooklyn, N.Y. and graduated with a BS degree from the City College of New York. Mr. Drescher was the former Deputy Chief of the Federal Power Commission (now the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission). He retired in 1973 after 30 years of service with the agency, receiving many distinguished service awards.
He was a man of many talents, including the original design and the building of his dream cottage for his family near the Patuxent River in Maryland. He loved all things mechanical and was a creative problem solver, often making a simple invention for a complex problem. He and his wife Alice traveled to many national parks and foreign countries after he retired. He had a passion for cars, a great love of animals, and a unique sense of humor – all of which he passed on to his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his beloved wife Alice of 71 years. He has three daughters: Arlene Wilson (of Nashville), Linda Lee (of Tallahassee), and Bonnie Hume, (deceased). He adored his six grandchildren: Courtney Carpenter (St. Louis), Jennifer Chapman (Tallahassee), Henry Wilson (Virginia), Megan Vlach (Wisconsin), Molly Jackson (Colorado) and Andrea Brock (St. Louis) plus three great-grandchildren.
Friends and family are invited to a celebration of his life to be held on Sunday, September 16, at 1:00 PM in the third floor chapel at Allegro/Heritage Oaks, 4501 West Shannon Lakes Drive, Tallahassee.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to any of the following: Boxer Aid & Rescue Coalition, P.O. 12963, Tallahassee, FL 32317; National Parks Conservation, PO Box 97202, Washington DC 20077-7433; Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd., Tallahassee, FL 32308.
