

He was born in Charleston, SC to Custis Quinette Rutledge and William James Rutledge, Sr. He grew up in Charleston, SC, Birmingham, AL, and Jacksonville, FL. He graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Jacksonville, FL. His sister, Katherine (Kathy) Ann Rutledge, was born as he was heading off to the University of Florida.
He met his future wife, Mary Ann Milford, when he was partnered with her in a social dance class. He graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in Civil Engineering in 1957. Bill and Mary Ann were married 11/27/1958 on Thanksgiving Day. They were married for 61 years.
He served in the U.S. Army reserves and worked for the Florida Department of Transportation for over 30 years in Lake City and Tallahassee, FL
He and Mary Ann had their son, William (Billy) James Rutledge, III, and their daughter, Terri Lynne Rutledge, in Lake City, FL.
He enjoyed playing tennis with his group of Golden Boys at Forest Meadows, socializing with his wife and their many friends, and watching his Gators play football and basketball.
He is survived by his beloved daughter, Terri Rutledge, and sister, Kathy Rutledge, his daughter in law, Amandine Rutledge, his grandsons Bart Rutledge and Nathan Hoofnagle, and granddaughters, Anna and Allison Rutledge.
He will be missed by all of his family and many friends who loved him. See you later Gator.
