My voice is speechless,
My other mother has departed from this Earth.
My aunt, whom I affectionately coined “Addie” was my voice of reason at many times, and my sounding board at others. The distance was only a problem when she did not answer her phone.
Andrea Marie Lindo-Gregg, affectionately known as “Pinky” when she was born, and later known as “Aunt Addie” in her college years was born in Kingston, Jamaica on August 29,1961. She was number six of seven children, and the second girl. She migrated to the United States at the tender age of ten where she completed her elementary and junior high school. She attended Tilden High School, and then Kingsborough Community College where she studied business. She married in 1985 and that union brought her first love, Andre. Eleven years later she had her second love Christeena and then her third love Giovanni. Family, made Addie’s heart beat and gave her sustenance.
Addie worked for many years as a buyer for Burlington in NYC, Burdines in Fla. and she worked as an office manager within the medical field in her latter years. She was profoundly diligent and compassionate with her patients, her co-workers, and even people she chanced to meet. She helped numerous people. All she had to do was meet you once and she would bring you into her home, feed you and clothe you if need be.
My aunt had an infectious smile, and her light preceded her. Her very presence illuminated the room, but that smile, that selfless nature that radiated from her was her essence. She was a woman of strength, courage, endurance and abundant unconditional love. She loved to hug and kiss on everyone. She will forever be our light, our strength, and our forever inspiration. Thank you for blessing us, your mother, your children, your granddaughters, your brothers, and sister, your nieces, nephews, friends, and all you have come in contact with. We will continue to shine through you.
Her memory will stay in the heart of those she left behind: her mother, Enid Aiken, her children, Andre, Christeena, and Giovannie, her grandchildren, Drea, Deja, and Zora, her sister (Diana) Pat and her husband, Courtney, brothers Dave, Delroy and his wife, Ivette, Locksley, Junior and his wife, Phyllis, her aunt Desney, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Andrea Marie Lindo Gregg, “Addie”, He knew your name.
