

He received his early education in public school and graduation from Frederick Douglass High School in June of 1952. He joined the United States Air Force, assigned in Communications Unit. He was stationed in Eielson Air Force Base in Labrador, bases in Japan, Eglin Air Force Base in Florida and Andrews Air Force Base. After ten years of service, he was honorably discharged on August 16, 1962.
He enjoyed swimming, fishing, camping, playing his guitar, boating, and singing in the choir at his church, Shepherd Life Church of God in Columbia, Maryland, serving also in Bread Ministry which helped feed the hungry. He had daily scripture readings and discussions with his long-time friend, Rev. Emanuel Robertson. Every Wednesday he joined a Zoom meeting called, Bread and Praise Ministry which discussed Our Daily Bread readings. In 2020 when he moved to Florida he joined Legacy Builders on-line at Calvary Chapel, Fort Lauderdale. He also did daily devotional with his wife. Many times, he would share spiritual words with family, friends, neighbors and strangers.
Kennard Smith leaves to cherish in his memory, wife Rose Smith, three sons, Kennard F. Smith, Milton G. Branch, Michael L. Branch, one daughter Michelle R. Branch Hill, two daughter in-laws Deborah Branch and Stacci Smith, one sister Rosetta Salter, one brother Harry Smith, one son in-law James Hill Jr., four sister in-laws Frances Dennis, Sharron P. Wildy, Sharon Wildy, Audrey Smith, two brother in-laws William Wildy and Kelvin Dennis. Grandchildren Tiara Smith, Tia Branch, Stephanie Logan, Kristopher Smith, Keith Smith, Kennard L. Smith, Marcus Branch, Jordan Branch, Adrian Branch, Michael L. Branch Jr., Makita Branch Walker, Steven M. Parrish deceased, Demetrius Jones deceased, Breanna Hill, Anthony Hill and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
