Lou was a World War II Veteran who was honorably discharged with a Purple Heart. He also received eight additional medals: the American Defense Service Medal, Eastern Campaign Medal, European-African Medal, Army of Occupation Medal with Germany Clasp, World War II Victory Medal, and three Efficiency, Honor and Fidelity Medals.
After military discharge, Lou spent the next twenty-six years of his life as a dedicated United States Postal Service employee. The love for his country endured and he remained an active member of the Veterans of Foreign War. He held various leadership positions and spent endless volunteer hours planning community events to honor veterans everywhere.
In retirement, Lou loved the hobby of fishing on one-day charter boat excursions where he would enthusiastically “reel them in.” However, the one hobby everyone had the pleasure of enjoying was his passion for good food, cooking and baking. He was an awesome baker! Holidays, especially Christmas, were times of devouring scrumptious delicacies and an assortment of Italian cookies that he made, with love, for everyone. Lou will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Lou was a spiritual man who surrounded himself with many faith items at home and in his car. His love for the Lord was evident throughout his lifetime on Earth and he believed in the thought of joining Him for eternity.
Lou is survived by his two sons, Louis Rubino, Jr. and wife Linda of Mineral Bluff, GA, and Larry Rubino, Sr. of Crossville, TN; his two daughters, Linda Rubino of Tampa, FL and Lorraine Odio of Crossville, TN; two stepsons, Don and Bob and wives; eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and extended family; and former wife, Odette Grosse, of Crossville, TN. He was preceded in death by his parents Gaetano and Autilla; two brothers, Joe Rubino and Ralph Napolitano and two sisters, Mary Kirk and Tilly Boksa; and his cherished wife, Josephine Rubino in 2007.
A Catholic Mass was held at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church with Reverend Kidney M. Saint Jean officiating. Burial was followed at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, 1400 South State Road 7, North Lauderdale, FL, on January 24, 2014.
